Audacious and innovative, the Geneva Camerata (GECA) is made up of brilliant, young virtuosos and has been praised as one of today’s most adventurous ensembles. GECA – a chamber orchestra based in Switzerland – performs music of all periods and styles, from early baroque, classical, and contemporary repertoire to electronic, world, and jazz music. Presenting thirty-five concerts per season in Switzerland and on international tours, the Geneva Camerata also creates projects featuring dance, theater, video, and visual arts.
Led by conductor David Greilsammer, GECA collaborates with the most prestigious international soloists, including Emmanuel Pahud, Andreas Scholl, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Steven Isserlis, Daniel Hope, Richard Galliano and Véronique Gens. In addition, the orchestra has recently embarked on tours with a variety of celebrated artists, including Steven Isserlis, Yaron Herman, and Avi Avital.
In the 2015-2016 season, the Geneva Camerata presents five “Prestige Concerts” with soloists Victoria Mullova, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Giuliano Carmignola, and Sandrine Piau, as well as with world-renowned jazz pianist Stefano Bollani. The orchestra also offers the “Crazy Concerts,” a series of shows featuring the most groundbreaking programs, which mix classical, rock, blues, rap, and folk music. GECA’s recent international touring has brought the orchestra to Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Kings Place in London, Radial System in Berlin, Montreux Jazz Festival, Eilat Festival in Israel, and Sanat Hall in Istanbul. This season, the Geneva Camerata will embark on tours to Mexico and China, and will appear in Venice, La Rochelle, Adelboden, Lausanne, Paris, and London.
Strongly involved in the community’s life, and passionate about bringing together different cultures and art forms, GECA pursues its educational mission with the interactive “Family Concerts,” and expands its charitable activities with numerous presentations in hospitals, clinics, prisons, and shelters. The Camerata regularly collaborates with DJ Francesco Tristano, 7273 Dance Company, choreographer Cindy Van Acker, Geneva Marionettes Theatre, Electron Festival, Archipel Festival, Contrechamps Ensemble, and the award-winning French actress Emmanuelle Béart.
